In 1983, Don deLaski, a seasoned accountant living in the suburbs of Washington D.C., had the idea to share his extensive knowledge of the US government’s complex contract accounting rules with companies focused on such projects. He wanted to document his years of insight using a relatively new technology—the personal computer. Don teamed up with his son Ken and bought one of the first IBM personal computers at a Sears department store in Virginia. The father and son duo, plus a couple of programmers, spent the next few months working out of the deLaski’s modest ranch-style home to create an innovative business application that brought industry-specific capabilities to project-based organizations. They named their startup Deltek, short for deLaski Technologies.

And now four decades later, Deltek is the recognized global standard for project-based businesses across both government contracting and professional services industries, serving over 30,000 customers with industry-specific software and information solutions.
